Welcome
Who We Are
Welcome to the website for the Phoenix Quilt Guild of Intown Atlanta!

The Phoenix Quilt Guild of Intown Atlanta is a group of quilters eager to share their love and knowledge of quilting with others through monthly programs, special events and challenges and charitable donations. Our group boasts a wide range of experience from beginners to published, prize winning quilt designers. Our members are interested in all aspects of quilting techniques including both machine and hand quilting. Glorious batiks and interesting ethnic fabrics are generally the preferred medium of expression; however, more traditional fabrics are also represented.

On February 11, 2008, Phoenix Quilt Guild was heard on the Atlanta Sounds project of WABE recorded by Myke Johns. Check it out at the following link: pba.org/atlantasounds

The Phoenix Quilt Guild maintains a mailing list (phoenixquiltguild@yahoogroups.com). If you join the guild, you will be invited to join this list.

Special Events

The special guild event for 2009/2010 is the Bright Batik Block Swap. Click here for further details about this events.
April Meeting

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Intown Quilters shop. Since we decided to postpone the block swap until April, there's still time for people to make blocks to swap and to bring them to the next meeting.

The following people signed up for refreshments in April: Regina Carter, Cynthia Jeness, June Hanes, Joan Wiezenthal, and Arlene Poretsky.

March Meeting

Our last meeting was on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Intown Quilters shop. Anita Heady provided some interesting suggestions to help us "Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle, Repair, Maintain and Preserve". Here are just a few of her suggestions:

  • Get free patterns over the Internet or draw your own.
  • Purchase inexpensieve cotton clothing from thrift stores for quilts. Even non-cotton fabrics can be used if appropriately backed.
  • .
  • Fix color problems with dyeing.
  • Reuse those scraps. Small fabric "crumbs" can be built into larger quilts.
  • Repurpose a pastel quilt as a rabbit.
  • Use filtered water for irons and remember to turn them off when not in use.
  • Sharpen needles and cutting blades rather than replacing them.

The batik swap was delayed until next month. Thanks to Hilary Ford, Laura Palmer, Sheila Blair, and Judy Sternberg for wonderful bars, cookies and cheese snacks.
